6 Steps to plan your surprise wedding in Melbourne

Over the last few years the formats of traditional weddings has changed. A number of Australian couples are opting for adventurous elopements or surprise weddings. Are you considering your own surprise wedding but don’t know where to start? Here are some tips for you to consider when planning a surprise wedding.

  1. Step 1: Consider non traditional venues like Breweries or some wineries.

Non traditional venues like a brewery or a caffe are a great format, because they are less of a traditional wedding venue and it will be harder for your guests to know what you are up to.

  2. Step 2: Keep the starting time of your event “flexible”

You need to expect for some of your guests to arrive a bit later, and that’s ok. Just make sure that your main guests (your immediate family) is already there. You can always make an appearance at the beginning of the party and then disappear to quickly get changed for maximum impact.

  3. Step 3: Have a few accomplices:

Just like your traditional wedding, it’s best if you are able to plan with a few friends. Have your bridal party there and helping you, making sure that they will be able to keep the secret. Your friends will be able to get ready just like you and your partner nearby, and they will be able to organise your family for maximum surprise.

  4. Step 4: Make sure you have a good excuse for your party:

Something like an engagement party is a great excuse as your guests will already be in formal attire. Other great occasions could be a birthday.

  5. Step 5: Expect less presents:

Keep in mind that people are expecting your function to be something fun and relaxed, so don’t take for granted presents and expect friends and family to have no presents or budget differently than if they were going to a traditional wedding.

  6. Step 6: Come to terms that not everyone will be there:

Some guests could decide not to go, and that’s ok. I feel that some people go the extra effort to go to a wedding, but for some people just a party might be hard to organise baby sitters or travel interstate for it.

I hope these tips will keep you in the right foot to start your planning.

I can’t wait to hear what you have in mind for your day.
